The Christian Leaders Exploratory Foresight Report is a monthly resource from The Futuring Hub for Theo-Futures Research at Acadia Divinity College, equipping church and ministry leaders to navigate complexity with courage, conviction, and creativity. The August 2025 edition explores three timely signals shaping the future of the Canadian Church:
-
Large Action Models (LAMs) – The next leap in artificial intelligence, LAMs move beyond conversation to autonomous action, raising profound questions about trust, discernment, and the role of human leadership. For churches, they could streamline ministry operations while challenging core theological understandings of agency and vocation.
-
Renewed Hypernormalization – A growing tendency to maintain the appearance of “normal” while institutions quietly unravel. This dynamic risks emotional and theological numbness, reducing urgency for justice and prophetic witness. Christian leaders are called to resist resignation and cultivate authentic, courageous engagement.
-
Declining Donor Participation – With fewer Canadians, especially younger generations, giving to charity, churches face more than a financial challenge—they must adapt to shifting cultural values, diversify generosity pathways, and nurture relational trust to sustain mission.
Combining research, theological reflection, and practical recommendations, the report invites leaders to discern the times, innovate faithfully, and prepare their communities for the transformations ahead.
